THE Central Fife Crime Prevention Panel is stepping up the number of new devices it has available to help the people of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area secure their property.

The panel meeting on Wednesday heard from vice chairman Davie Roy that more and more devices were available, but equally as important, these are not expensive .

Said the vice chair: "We have always felt it is important to have items available that can help in crime prevention and community safety for local people.

"We have been looking at what is now available from some of the companies that have supplied us in the past and there are some interesting pieces of kit.

"For instance there is a monitor that can scan your home and send a message to an app on your phone if the house is entered by an intruder.

"It retails at around £30 which is a good piece of equipment at low cost."

He added that there were television effects devices which can give the impression a TV is on in a dark empty home while there are dummy cameras which look very real, for about £10 each.

The panel hopes to have these available for the public soon.
