REACTING badly when he didn't get birthday money he had been expecting ended with a Court appearance for Hill of Beath man Matthew Johnson this week.

Johnson, 20, of Dalbeath Gardens, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday after previously admitting that on August 28 at Dalbeath Gardens and Sinclair Drive, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm by shouting, swearing, uttering abusive remarks, throwing a mobile phone and seizing his then partner by the clothing and pulling her by the clothing.

Depute Fiscal Rennie, said Johnson's partner had stayed at his house the previous evening. On the day of the offence, she had gone outside to speak to Johnson's mother who had parked outside.

"On returning back to the property, the accused asked the complainer if his mother had given her any money for him which she said she hadn't," Ms Rennie told the Court.

"The accused became angry and aggressive and started to shout at the complainer. The shouting went on for some time and the accused grabbed the complainer by the collar of her jacket with both arms and shouted at her."

Solicitor, Selina Mackay, said the couple had been in a relationship for around six years and her client accepted the argument had taken place due to a "complete over-reaction" by him.

"He was out the night before for his birthday. He expected his mum to drop birthday money off the next day and reacted when she didn't," she said.

"He had been out the night before. He had consumed alcohol and taken amphetamines. It is not an excuse but that would have clouded his judgement to some degree. He was in the wrong."

Sheriff Alison McKay told Johnson he would benefit from a period of supervision to focus on his offending behaviour, drug and alcohol use and on healthy relationships.

She placed him on a community payback order with supervision for 12 months.
