ACTIVE teenagers are being encouraged to join the newly formed 46th Fife (Cowdenbeath) Explorer unit.

It's only been going for a short time but it's already been busy with kayaking on Kinghorn Loch and getting ready for camping trips and rock climbing at Ratho.

And last week it was all about navigation practice in preparation for expeditions.

Explore scouting is for youngsters aged 14 to 18 and, for the most part, is self planned.

The unit has been setting up a programme designed by the Scouts themselves, including what they need to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh's award.

Group scout leader Graham Gilbert said: "We are actively looking for new members to join the unit.

"If you are interested or know of a young person who may be interest in joining please contact me on 01383 306647."
