WITH the Queensferry Crossing open to public traffic for the first time on Wednesday Cowdenbeath MSP Annabelle Ewing has described the new bridge as “a celebration of human endeavour”.

Ms Ewing said: “The Queensferry Crossing truly is a triumph of modern engineering, a celebration of human endeavour.

"It is a beautiful structure, uplifting to behold and already acknowledged as probably the most important infrastructure project in Scotland for a generation.

“With the Queensferry Crossing opening to public traffic for the time, this is a proud day for everyone who has been involved in this project and all those who have watched the bridge take shape".

She added: “It is astounding to think of some of the facts associated with this new bridge.

"Such as, for example, the information that if all the wires used in the cabling supporting the deck were laid end to end you could encircle the globe with it.

“Perhaps even more astounding for a public works project of this scale and complexity, it has been completed within ten weeks of the target date and £250million under budget. That is an achievement in itself.”

The new bridge will have a major impact on the economy of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.
