AS one successful venture into helping a young Indian man develop his future, another starts for Cowdenbeath Rotary Club.

Over a period of 10 years the Cowdenbeath club has spent just over £2000 sponsoring Annakodi through school and college and he is now working as a qualified mechanic on the sub-continent.

Now the club members are sponsoring S Parthipan through his developing years.

At Thursday night's meeting International convener, Tom Russell, said that Annakodi had warmly thanked his 'aunties and uncles' from Cowdenbeath in assisting him become a mechanical engineer and also for buying him his first overalls as he started work.

Said Tom: "It was a long association we had with Annakodi and he has done really well and is now looking forward to being a successful mechanic".

Tom said that the Joe Homan Education Trust has been supported by the Cowdenbeath club for many years and has done so thanks to the contributions from local people.

He said: "The project sponsors children from poor families in India throughout their entire school life and on to Higher and Further education to career qualification.

"Individual student beneficiaries keep in touch regularly to update their 'aunties and uncles' in Rotary of their progress and achievements.

"We supported young Annakodi and it has been excellent how he has progressed.

"But now as one door closes another opens and now we have agreed to sponsor young S Parthipan."

Indeed, the young Indian lad has sent a message card and a photograph of himself at school as he starts his 7th Form.

In thanking his 'aunties and uncles' from Cowdenbeath, he said: "My family joins me in thanking you for offering me support in my education and then hopefully into an apprenticeship and on to a good life".

Tom added: "Hopefully this young man will do as well as Annakodi and we look forward to hearing how he progresses."
