COWDENBEATH MSP Annabelle Ewing has expressed her concern about reports of anti-social behaviour affecting the town's War Memorial at the public park.
Ms Ewing was particularly concerned about reports of teenagers using the First World War Memorial as a meeting point for under-age drinking.
Speaking on Thursday Thursday Ms Ewing said: “I am very concerned at reports I have received that the area around Cowdenbeath’s War Memorial is being used as a drinking den.
"This is not just unpleasant for local residents, it is deeply disrespectful
“I have been in touch with the Community Police Officer and with Fife Council to express my concerns about this situation and to ask what measures can be put in place to ensure that this very special space can be respected and preserved for the benefit of all.”
Community Inspector Gavin Cameron said: “Historically there have been issues with youths congregating in this area, however we have never experienced problems to this extent before.”
He added: “Community police officers and Fife Council community safety officers check the area as part of their routine patrols.
“As a result, officers discovered the mess which is totally unacceptable and disrespectful.
“We will continue with increased patrols during the summer holidays.”
