THE new president of Cowdenbeath Rotary Club is Erica Lock.

Erica was installed on Thursday by Assistant District Governor Ann Mitchell (pictured middle) with the help of her successor Heather Stuart (right).

A former Health employee in West Fife, Erica takes over from Derek Walker in the role and she is looking forward to the challenge.

She said: "A great deal has been achieved over the past 12 months by the hard work of the membership both at home and abroad and I want to keep that going.

"There are several exciting projects in the pipeline and with us set to welcome a couple of new members aboard at the next meeting, and one or two others hopefully joining, that will be of great assistance to helping things come to fruition."

Assistant Distrct Governor Ann Mitchell welcomed Erica to her new role and said: "I have to say that while I have found myself visiting a lot of clubs in this role I have always welcomed coming to Cowdenbeath.

"It is a club which is very much part of its community and the hard work of the members is well known throughout the district."

At the club's next meeting, on July 13, the disbursement of funds from the highly successful Ladies Day, organised by junior vice president Marie Shevas, will take place.

A total of £9,500 will be distributed between a number of deserving causes.

Meanwhile secretary David Hunter reported that the young Indian boy Annekodi, whose education the Cowdenbeath Rotary Club has supported over the past 10 years through the Joe Homan Trust, has now become a fully qualified mechanical engineer in India and the club is to close their sponsorship of him by supplying him with his work clothes for his first job as a mechanic.

Also the club agreed to follow up the success of the Annekodi project by supporting the education of a boy and a girl in Thailand over the next few years, again through the Homan Trust.
