COWDENBEATH Civic Week 2017 starts on Saturday with the golf tournament which will be held at the Dora Course.

It is all about local golfers going along to enjoy themselves and have fun whether you are a member of Cowdenbeath Golf Club or not.

This will be an opportunity for a fun competition. Contact the Dora for details.

Also on Saturday there will be a visit to the Sunnyside Court Sheltered Housing Complex by Civic Week Queen Colby McDonald and her attendants.

On Sunday Colby and her team and the Citizen of the Year will be at Abbotsford Residential Home, off High Street, and Roselea Home during the afternoon and then in the evening there will be the special church service at Beath Cowdenbeath North Church.

The Civic Week 'Church Service' is being promoted differently this year.

It is the minister David Redmayne's last year at the North Church and he is wanting the wider community to join in with the celebration.

The Civic Queen, her party, the Citizen and Young Citizen will be there. David is hoping for a packed church top help open Civic Week. The service starts at 7pm.

On Monday there will be a visit from the Royal party to Meldrum Court Sheltered Housing Unit.

There will also be a primary schools five-a-side football tournament at the Leisure Centre.

On Tuesday evening, at the Leisure Centre will be the venue between 6.30pm and 8pm for a Children's Water Disco.

On Wednesday it will be the last time that the Cowdenbeath Royal Party will visit Valley House Residential Home before the new Care Village at Lumphinnans opens.

Then at 6.30pm there will be a wheelbarrow race at the public park involving teams from pubs in the town.

On Thursday there will be a pet show at Broad Street Centre from 6pm to 7.30pm while a bowling competition will be held at the Broad Street club.

Then on Friday the big build up to Gala Day starts with the Civic Week Committee and volunteers getting the public park and the route ready for the culmination of the 2017 Civic Week.
