COWDENBEATH came alive with science at the weekend, as the Fife Science Festival kicked off in spectacular style.

Building on the success of last year when over 1000 people attended the festival weekend in Cowdenbeath, Fife Science Festival 2017 came alive with the wonders of science - covering everything from engineering and computing to liquid nitrogen and our very own insides.

Visitors from throughout the Kingdom gathered to enjoy the family-friendly events at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

Children had a great time experimenting and having fun.

As our photographer David Wardle discovered it was all about having fun and learning at the same time.

On Saturday, ‘A Day in the Life of ...’ opened the festival weekend, shedding light on the many, exciting career opportunities in Scotland, with the chance to meet and mingle with University of St Andrews scientists, as well as those working in engineering locally.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, ‘Science Adventure’ saw visitors explore the challenges in designing railway stations, witness live demos of medieval combat, learn about boat-building and investigate their own anatomy!
Families got to grips with electronic engineering, and discovered how psychologists study how children think and learn.

The events will be repeated on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June 2017 at The Lomond Centre, Glenrothes.

The Fife Science Festival will culminate with ‘Meet the Expert: People Who Help Us’ event featuring Guide Dogs, Police Scotland, a medical doctor and a technician from the University of St Andrews and many more at Dundee Science Centre on Saturday June 10.

Brought to you by Dundee Science Centre and funded by the Scottish Government, Shell UK, Edina Trust and Fife Council, the annual festival offers a diverse range of free activities for the general public.
