ORGANISERS at the Broad Street Centre Legacy Group have launched an appeal for artefacts and mementos which chart the history of the town’s only community centre for a unique project.

A large specially designed time capsule will be buried at the new Maxwell Centre, in Stenhouse Street, later this year which will be opened in 2067.

They hope the time capsule will provide a special window back over 50 years to see and hear what Broad Street Centre meant to the people who use it today.

The Maxwell Centre is set to open later this year replacing the Broad Street facility which has provided the Cowdenbeath community with a facility which has done an amazing job through the work of the management committee and community workers many years beyond its expected life span.

The Legacy Group committee want to hear from anyone who has been connected with Broad Street Centre over the past 40 years and want them to submit their treasures for the time capsule.

Stuart Duffy, secretary of the Group, said: “We’re looking for any special items that can go into the time capsule so the fantastic work here can be remembered in 50 years time. Anything like old photos, written notes of memories or even small mementos can go in.

"Really it has to be items that will stand the test of time and won't deteriorate much over the next 50 years!”

The Legacy Group have launched their appeal, which lasts until June 30, and want to encourage locals to come forward with their items for the time capsule.

“This will be a unique opportunity to tell the history of Broad Street to a whole new audience – locals of the future will know how much this Centre meant to the community through this time capsule."

You can contact the legacy group with your ideas by emailing BSCLEGACY@gmail.com or by handing in items, which must include your name and address, to Broad Street Centre during office hours before June 30.
