THE board, management and players of Cowdenbeath FC wish to take this opportunity to thank the community and fans for the tremendous backing they gave the club at the win over East Kilbride on Saturday.

Over 1300 home fans filled the stands to capacity and their support was a vital factor in helping the Club successfully preserve its long-standing place in the Scottish League with the 5-3 win on penalties after the game ended at 1-1.

Director David Allan said: "The support from so many ex-players who had worn the Blue Brazil jersey with distinction as well as from our many friends at clubs all around the country made it an emotional day for many and we faced keen opposition from a strong East Kilbride side.

"There was indeed a brief sense of 'job done' at the close, but much hard work lies ahead and your club needs your help and support."

On Saturday at the match Alex Haddow organised a collection to help raise funds for Cowdenbeath FC's new initiative Club 135.

Among those helping with the bucket collection was long-time Cowden fan Matty Aitken, who had travelled all the way up from Liverpool to support his home town club. Thanks to Alex and Matty and the other volunteers involved a sum of £515.65 was raised from fans attending the game-a great effort!

The 50/50 draw on Saturday was won by another Cowdenbeath exile Jim Blair who had come up to the game from Nottingham. Jim scooped a win of £250 and had no hesitation in pledging the full amount straight away to Club 135 - a great gesture by Jim.

Among others making their own personal contributions to Club 135 on Saturday were Dave Room and Alison Allan, as another £199 was handed over.

Added David: "So, as you can see, Club 135 is really gaining momentum and following Saturday's result that is what we are aiming for both on and off the field. So many turned up and did their bit for our Club on Saturday and that same approach and commitment to Club 135 will be key going forward".

Former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, even texted Cowden fan and author Ron Ferguson, and stated: "Well done the Blue Brazil. It's another book, play and film!!"

The two mascots for last Saturday were Lewis and Ewan Anderson, great-grandsons of Alex Anderson, the Club President. The two boys both donated £20 to the 135 Club.
