COWDENBEATH Rotary Club is to play a part in the battle against poverty in the area.
At Thursday night's meeting the club decided back recommendations by a sub committee set up to look at aspects of the problem as it affects the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.
Secretary Tom Taylor said that there were particularly parts of the area where the levels of poverty were among the worst in the country.
He added: "It is an unfortunate fact that our area does have some of the worst poverty figures in the whole of Scotland.
"We have had prelimenary discussions on how this could be tackled and we feel it should be possible to help some of the groups who are providing support to people having struggles to make ends meet.
"These organisations are doing a good job but we feel would always welcome more support and that is what we would seek to do."
There are various facts and statistics available outlining the problems that exist and the sub group is to examine these and come up with a plan to help tackle the situation.
