THE summer is going to a tough one for Jackie Crombie Lang.

Between June and July home carer Jackie will walk 112.4 miles for two causes very dear to her heart.

Jackie, 48, who lost her dad to a heart attack and saw her big brother diagnosed with kidney cancer last June, is set to tackle the treks for Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation.

Jackie, who works in Cowdenbeath and whose family comes from the town, will tackle the Moon Walk on June 10 and then on July 22 will set out on the BHF's 60 mile walk.

She is currently busy training and is setting her stall out to be in top shape for the challenges.

Said Jackie, who now stays in Dunfermline: "It was a big shock when my brother was diagnosed with kidney cancer and it made me determined to raise funds for Cancer Research.

"Having lost my dad to heart failure I know at first hand what devastation a heart attack can cause for a family and the value of the work done by the British Heart Foundation.

"I decided that this summer I was going to tackle the 52.4 Moon Walk in Edinburgh and the 60 mile trek from Glasgow to Leith for the British Heart Foundation."

Jackie is no newcomer to fundraising as she cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh for Chest Heart Stroke Scotland three years ago.

She added: "I realise that these are two pretty tough tasks and I have been training by walking around Loch Leven and have been aiming to cover 20 miles a week and keep that going right up to the Moon Walk.

"I have set up a Just Giving Page on jacquelinecrombielang and already I have £150 pledged for Cancer Research and £60 for the Heart Foundation so it is an encouraging start."

The Moon Walk in June will see Jackie joining hundreds of other walkers on the overnight trek in the capital while the Heart Foundation 60 mile trek involves starting at 7.30am on July 22 and completing the distance in 30 hours.

Concluded the Home Carer: "I did that one last year and managed to complete it in 28 hours so with a bit of luck I will be able to reduce the time involved in July.

"I am hoping to raise a reasonable amount of money for both charities and would welcome support from anyone wishing to make a pledge."
