DOMINO'S Pizza is set to open in Cowdenbeath town centre.

The fast food chain will move into the former Dunfermline Building Society offices at 323 High Street.

A statement on behalf of the applicant said: "Domino’s Pizza intend to occupy the unit and will have circa 20 seats within the unit.

"As such, there will be a significant element of dining in as well as takeaway trade."

Despite protests and criticism from then MSP Helen Eadie, Nationwide, which took over the Dunfermline Building Society, decided to axe the branch in October 2013 and it closed the following summer.

The premises have been empty ever since.

Last July Sava Estates Ltd, based in Glasgow, applied to turn the office into an eaterie with up to 100 covers.

At the time their agents said: "The proposal will see this vacant property transformed into a quality restaurant making a major contribution to the range of eating establishments in the town and to the economic wellbeing of this part of the High Street."

The plans, approved by Fife Council in November, included a serving counter at the front for a hot food takeaway with a small area of seating for customers and the restaurant in the centre of the building.

The proposed opening hours were to be between 9am and 11pm and the firm said a yard at the back of the premises could provide dedicated car parking.

The applicant now is named as DPSK Ltd, of Surrey, and the most recent applications for alterations to the shopfront and display of signs were approved by the council earlier this month.

A statement from their agents said: "The proposed signage and shopfront alterations will facilitate the use of the unit by Domino’s Pizza, who will occupy the unit once all the necessary permissions have been approved by the local planning authority."

The building is on the east side of High Street and near to Greggs, Iceland, Boots and Poundstretcher.
