THERE are plans in the pipeline for the coming summer school holidays to ensure that there is plenty for kids to get involved in.

Cowdenbeath Area Committee received an update on the success of the Summer Programme 2016 which was developed and delivered by the Youth Strategy Group for local young people.

And the committee were eager to ensure that similar activities would be available this summer.

The committee heard from Cowdenbeath Area Services Manager, Kevin Sayer, how the 2016 programme had panned out.

He said: "Over the last year, many activities ranging from Summer Playscheme for 8-12 year olders to Family Fun Days were made available to young people and their families and the figures below highlight the success of these projects.

"For Instance, 471 children and young people took part, 45 adults participated in activities, 523 hours of activity time was delivered, 2,958 recorded attendances were had over the 6 weeks,100 families participated in family learning activities and there were100 referrals from Social Work’s Family Placement Team."

He added: "Continuing funding support will enable the Youth Strategy Group to provide a quality programme of activity aimed at all the young people in the Cowdenbeath Area during the coming school holidays."
