Clyde 0, Cowdenbeath 2.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-395

JUST what the doctor ordered for Cowden with this win at Broadwood last night bringing new hope that they can climb away from the basement position in the table.

On a freezing cold evening Cowdenbeath produced a much better performance than on Saturday against Montrose and they defended with a lot more solidity.

Yes there were a few errors but for once the opposition did not captalise on them while the Cowden finishing was just what was needed.

Kyle Miller was recalled in the only change and he repaid manager Gary Locke with the opening goal and an overall energetic performance.

David Syme also hit the target and too played well in midfield while at the back Jamie Sneddon(who saved a penalty), Gerry McLauchlan and Scott Rumsby combined with Jamie Pyper and Shaun Rutherford to keep the home side out.

The Blues had an early let-off though when in 10 minutes Rumsby fouled Peter MacDonald in the box but Sneddon came to the rescue by diving to save the striker's penalty.

Clyde certainly were the busier team at this stage and Ryan Finnie saw his shot blocked but at the other end Dale Carrick's 20 yard effort was expertly saved.

Former Cowden front man Sean Higgins fired over but then Carrick saw his close in effort blocked.

But in 43 minutes Cowden got the key opening goal, when MILLER was lying perfectly placed close in to convert after a shot had been blocked.

Then six minutes after the break came number two. Fraser Mullen's cross was perfect for SYME and his header gave the 'keeper no chance.

Cowden took a lot of confidence from the goals and started to pose Clyde more problems and Rumsby's header just went wide and then Liam Henderson shot just past the post.

In the Clyde reply MacDonald was just off target but with 20 minutes left Mullen saw his fierce drive saved.

A key moment came with 15 minutes left when Clyde's MacDonald hit Sneddon's left hand post and credit to the home side they kept working hard only to find the Cowdenbeath defence in resolute mood.

So the win closed the Blues to within four points of both Clyde and Edinburgh City keeping things in their own hands.
