COWDENBEATH hoteliers Margaret and Peter Brown were celebrating scooping a prestigious award this week.

Since taking over the Struan Bank Hotel at the end of 2015, the couple have been working hard to put the premises on the map.

Their efforts were rewarded when they received an accolade from website Booking.com for achieving an 8.7 customer rating.

Peter puts the success down to his wife Margaret. "She has gone out of her way to supply a very high standard of customer service with the rooms, the food, the welcoming manner and by doing her best for all the guests that have come to stay," he said.

"It's not bad, an award from a worldwide company for a small hotel in Cowdenbeath."

After advertising the hotel on Booking.com and TripAdvisor, they have welcomed visitors from around the world.

"We have had people from Russsia, France, Americans," added Peter, who previously ran an MOT garage. "I bought it as a project to do it up and Margaret took it on and got herself into the hotel thing and has done really well.

"It has a great atmosphere and Margaret goes out of her way to make people feel at home. It is a home from home."
