CURRENT councillors, Gary Guichan and Alex Campbell, have been selected by Fife Labour to be their candidates for the new electoral ward of Cowdenbeath and Kelty.

The election takes place on Thursday May 4.

Boundary changes saw the loss of the former Lochs ward which included Kelty and Benarty and resulted in the former joining with Cowdenbeath and Benarty joining with Lochgelly and Cardenden.

Both Councillor Guichan and Campbell were first elected to Fife Council in by-elections on the same day in May 2014 at a by-election after Alex Rowley and Jayne Baxter left Cowdenbeath Area Committee to go to the Scottish Parliament.

Both have been prominent in several local issues with Gary Guichan concerned about the possible loss of council buildings such as the Town House and the general condition of the centre of the town while Alex Campbell has been prominent in Kelty in giving new life to the former Moray Institute and looking at the shortage of three and four bedroom homes for rent in the village.
