THE man who is in charge of looking after the green areas in the Central Fife area this week encouraged members of the public to contact their local office if they have concerns about areas needing attention.

Stephen Duffy was responding to concerns expressed by members of Cardenden Environmental Group who had been contacted by irate villagers over hedges overgrowing.

Cardenden Tenants Association chairman, Willie Duncan, had been contacted about the condition of a hedge semi blocking a path at Cluny Park and he is pictured examining it.

Mr Duffy admitted that the hedge needed trimming and it was tackled at the end of last week as part of the twice a year cut programme, which pleased Mr Duncan.

Said Stephen Duffy, “We have been working with all the local environment groups and indeed with any community organisations who wants to help.

“The basic programme is to cut grass verges once a year and hedges twice a year and the Cluny Park hedge was due to be tackled just after the Environment Group aired their concern.

“At a time of severe budget constraints on all council services the maintenance of green areas is also part of this but we are doing our utmost to make sure communities are kept tidy.

“Clearly at this time of year there is a lot of growth with the amount of rainfall and warmth that we have experienced and we have to keep an eye on things.

“So we are very much keen to work with all community organisations to ensure any areas needing tackled are.” And he added, “We encourage people concerned by any feature causing worries to contact their local office or the council by telephone or online.”
