Work is set to begin on the extension of the skate park at Wallsgreen Park in Cardenden.

Cowdenbeath Area Committte chairman, Councillor Willie Clarke, and Executive Committee member, Councillor Mark Hood visited the park to mark the occasion.

Councillor Clarke explained, “This skatepark is formed from pre-cast concrete and has limited scope.

“There has been a keen interest in extending it and adding more equipment and lighting. This will undoubtedly make it more attractive and demanding for skaters of all ages”.

He added, “I’m delighted that funding from the Council’s Area budget is contributing towards such a worthwhile project that has been really driven by the local skaters. Their input to the design has been invaluable and it was a great opportunity for them to help shape improvements in their local area. I hope they continue to be involved in this sort of positive work that benefits us all.” Councillor Hood added, “Improving access to sport and physical activity opportunities is a big priority for the Council. Locally we have a strong skating community and are really seeing the plan for improving skate parks in the Cowdenbeath area develop.

“The work beginning here at Wallsgreen Park is an important step in these developments.

“I really look forward to seeing the designs these young people helped to shape become a reality for them to enjoy.” Local skater Greg Shand said, “I can’t believe it’s finally starting!

“We have been working on getting a skate park for a good few years now. We were involved in the plans and drawings for the new park which look great! We’re also getting to meet the builders on a weekly basis to keep us updated with the progress.” Work is expected to be completed at Wallsgreen Park in September and building will be starting at other skatepark projects soon. There are projects at Benarty Centre and at Blairadam Park, in Kelty, and also near Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre which are part of the Cowdenbeath Area skatepark programme which will see an investment of around half a million pounds.
