LOCAL MSP’s Alex Rowley and Jayne Baxter joined local volunteers to mark the opening of the ‘Tots 2 Teens Togs’ project at the Corrie Centre in Cardenden.

Mr Rowley cut the ribbon and said how keen he was to see local projects start up in communities.

‘Tots 2 Teens Togs’ is a project that seeks to recycle good quality, used children’s clothes and make them available for no charge to the community. Volunteer Nicola Wilson said, “There is already a great selection of boys and girls clothes for people to come and take away, the quality is superb and we have washed and ironed them all - so they are ready to wear.” Tots 2 Teens Togs will initially operate out of the Corrie Centre in Cardenden every Wednesday from 10am-1pm and seeks to help families to clothe their children.

Vi Penman, who volunteers with the project, said, “We are encouraging people to deposit unwanted clothes to the Corrie Centre or Bowhill Centre in Cardenden and we can redistribute them around the community. We are hoping to offer clothes from 0-16yrs.” Membership to the project is simple, with just a name and a postcode required to join up. Let them know how many children you have and you can take four items for each child per visit.

Volunteer Morgan Jarvis said, “It would be great if the community could turn out to support this project. We are also on Facebook - if you could please like our page and share the information around families in Cardenden and beyond that would help us get the Tots 2 Teens message out there.” Councillor Linda Erskine also attended the official opening and said, “This project is what can happen in a short space of time when people come together to help each other.

“We awarded the group some monies from the local ward budget to purchase the clothes rails and some items necessary to get off the ground, now local people can come and get great use out of the clothes on offer.” If you are interested in finding out more about Tots 2 Teens Togs please contact: Lorraine Mullen at Bowhill Centre, 145 Station Road, Cardenden.
