ONE hundred and two year-old Desert Rat, Jimmy Sinclair, accompanied by former teacher, 90 year-old Margaret Nicol, joined SNP candidate for the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath seat, Roger Mullin, in calling for a vote for the SNP and a better deal for pensioners.

Jimmy is the former Cardenden man, who was a member of several successful local brass bands and served with the famous Desert Rats in the Middle east during World War Two.

After meeting Jimmy and Margaret Roger Mullin, announced a range of policies the SNP will push for in Parliament, to deliver a better deal.

These will include a Single Tier Pension rate of at least £160 to lift pensioners out of means tested benefits.

Also a pledge that the SNP will oppose any attempts to end the Winter Fuel Allowance which so many pensioners rely on. And a guarantee that there should be no further increase in the state pension age in Scotland while life expectancy still lags behind the rest of the UK and Europe, plus the retention of the Triple Lock to ensure that the state pension increases every year either by inflation, in line with wages or by 2.5 per cent – whichever is higher.

Roger Mullin said, “Jimmy has been an SNP supporter for many years, but Margaret only joined the party last week. Both are being hugely supportive of our local campaign to get a better deal for pensioners, as are increasing numbers of local pensioners.”
