POLICE Scotland’s Cowdenbeath Community Ward Officers captured the imagination of the 4th Cardenden Scout Group when they arrived with space age technology and gave the youngsters a tour of the mobile CCTV Van.

Officers Gavin Keith, Gary Chrystal and Fife Camera Safety Partnership CCTV Operator, Nick St Aubyn, were asked to attend and provide an input about local Community Policing and the work of the Police Service of Scotland in general.

PC Gav Keith, the local Community Ward officer for the Cardenden area, commented, “It was great to be able to go out and speak to the young people at the 4th Cardenden Scout group and provide them with inputs on what, we as Police officers, do on a daily basis across the Cowdenbeath and wider Fife area, including our roles and responsibilities in Community Ward Policing. “Bringing along the mobile CCTV vehicle, also afforded the children the opportunity to see for themselves some of the specialist equipment we have at our disposal and they had a great time trying out the different cameras and seeing for themselves what Mr St Aubyn and the Fife Camera Safety Partnership does to assist operational Police officers, with either high visibility reassurance deployments of the mobile CCTV vehicle or for use at football matches etc.” Scout Leader, Kerrie Woods, commented, “The children had an excellent time talking to their local Community Ward Officer PC Keith and certainly asked a lot of questions about general Police work and I am sure that Gary and Gavin, whilst having no difficulty answering the group’s questions were both kept busy throughout their visit with a lot of pertinent questions about local Policing. “The mobile CCTV vehicle was an added extra, which we were not expecting and the children really enjoyed getting hands on with the controls for the CCTV cameras and seeing how specialist equipment assists Police officers basically on a daily basis in the area. “The children of 4th Cardenden Scouts Groups would like to say a big thank you to Gavin, Gary and Nick for coming out to talk to us and providing an excellent and informative discussion with the group.”
