WORK has been taking place to demolish the derelict toilets in Bowhill.

Fife Council originally planned to demolish the toilets, but put them up for auction instead and Cardenden Community Forum were unhappy at the move.

The Forum’s David Taylor said, “Objections were made, because the community were concerned this could remain in a derelict state indefinitely, along with other buildings in the area. It was finally agreed to sell the premises to a developer who had specific plans for them and two shop units are now to be created”.

The Community Development Forum intend to rent one of the units and create a charity shop, the profits of which will be re-invested back into the community.

“It is now hoped the other derelict premises in the community can be tackled, in a bid to improve the area,” he added.
