A PERFECT dry evening blessed the 2014 Cardenden Community Bonfire and Fireworks Display last Friday and a bumper crowd turned out to witness a top notch fireworks event.

The organising committee estimated that this year’s display attracted one of the biggest attendances in the history of the Cardenden spectacular.

Compere at Wallsgreen Park was popular Lochore disc jockey, Kenny McGurk, who had the thousands of spectators on their toes throughout the evening.

Local councillors, Linda Erskine and Mark Hood, were joined by MSP Jayne Baxter, to light the bonfire and were assisted by committee members Gary Paterson and Stuart McPherson, and a superb fireworks display followed which many spectators described as the ‘most spectacular and best ever’.

Committee chairperson Alex Burns MBE, forwarded his appreciation by stating that the Cardenden Bonfire and Fireworks Display continues to be one of the largest attended in the whole of the Kingdom and he paid tribute to the dedicated volunteers who form the organising committee, for all their hard work.

The committee is also grateful for the financial support from various sources that include Cowdenbeath Area Committee; Ore Valley Housing Association, Bowhill Centre, Cardenden Community Council and the Corrie Centre, plus various individuals.

The committee also wished to thank a number of local youth groups for building guys for the bonfire and also children from the village’s primary schools.

Mr Burns added, “We would also like to say a big thanks to the Bowhill Centre staff for their support and a special mention for Lorraine Mullen and Margaret King, for their assistance which is always greatly appreciated by the committee and also those companies, including Cluny based Diageo, who forwarded wooden pallets for the bonfire.

“Kirkcaldy based Lindsay Builders sent one of their trucks and a driver for the day to help with transporting materials and this was much appreciated.

“Last but not least the committee is indebted to Fife Council parks department, our local police officers, Lochgelly firefighters and the community payback justiced services, for all their assistance which helped make the night a great success.” The committee was delighted with the contribution made by people to the collecting tins at the entrance to Wallsgreen Park and thanked those who contributed.
