RESIDENTS in Kelty, Cardenden, Lumphinnans and Kincardine will have the chance to have their say on who represents them on their local Community Council.

Community Council elections are held every four years, giving local people the opportunity to have a voice in their neighbourhoods. The postal votes should be sent by Thursday 13th November.

People living in these four communities, who are registered to vote, should look out for their ballot paper dropping through their door.

Depute Returning Officer for Fife, Linda Bissett, said, “Community Councils are an important part of giving communities a voice. They can provide Councillors and statutory bodies with the views and opinions of the people living in these areas and are essential to shaping services and making decisions about issues that matter to local people.

“People should read the instructions carefully before completing their ballot paper. To make sure your vote is counted you will need to vote using a cross (X).

“You can choose as many of the candidates you wish up to the total number of vacancies on your community council. The number of vacancies on your community council will be clearly stated on the top of your ballot paper. As long as you put a cross against one person, your vote will be counted.

“And don’t forget to post it back in the envelope provided before the 13th November.” A number of Community Councils were able to form without going to a ballot, including those in Benarty, Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly.

This is because the number of nominations received was equal to, or more than half, the number of vacancies. Other Community Councils have not been established at this time due to the number of nominations received being less than half the number of vacancies.

There are 13,328 people registered to vote in the four villages and therefore entitled to have a say in the community council elections
