THE Central Fife area could be the scene of three community council elections in November.

More nominations than places on the community councils have been received for Cardenden, Kelty and Lumphinnans, and the area will see more elections than any other in Fife.

There are 17 nominees for the 14 places in Cardenden; nine for eight places in Lumphinnans; and 20 for 15 in Kelty. Returning officer Bill Welsh confirmed this week that unless there are withdrawals of nominations in these communities between now and Friday at 4pm there will be elections taking place on 13th November.

“People on the voter’s role in these communities will receive a ballot paper through which they can record who they want to see on their respective community council,” he said. Cardenden Community Council secretary David Taylor revealed it could see the first election in the village in over three decades.

“We have been fortunate to always have enough people come forward to allow us to continue so to have more than the 14 we need is unusual,” he said.

“It will, I suppose, allow democracy to burst into action.”
