A FORMER Cardenden man was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work for possessing indecent images of children.

Derek Davies (60), of Bennochy Avenue, Kirkcaldy, committed the offences between 14th September 2010 and 13th August 2013 at both his current address and former address of School Lane, Cardenden, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard on Wednesaday.

Fiscal depute Siobhan Monks said, “The police crime unit received information that a device registering to the accused was involved in file sharing of indecent images of children. The accused was interviewed and made no comment.

“A total of 43 videos ranging from level one to level five, involving female children between the age of 11 and 15 years of age, were found involved in sexual acts with adults and animals.

Davies’ agent Toni Pentecost said, “My client initially came across these images when he was accessing adult pornography.

“He realises he needs help and hopes that the Court will help him with that.

“The case has made him look at his behaviour.

“His former address was near a school but he has moved because parents in the community may have been concerned.

“Mr Davies feels ashamed and embarrassed. He appreciates that this not only effects him but also the children involved.

“He accepts that a custodial sentence may be on your mind today.

“He does have family that are standing behind him, although they don’t agree with what he has done, they promise to give him support.” Sheriff Craig McSherry said, “As a direct alternative to a custodial sentence you will be placed on a 24-month supervision requirement order with the following conditions: you will have no contact with children under the age of 16-years-old unless agreed so by your supervision officer and your internet accessing devices will be monitored.”
