A FIFE charity has received a cash injection to the tune of £240 thanks to big-hearted Cardenden resident, Heather Kane.

Heather, manager of Specsavers Highlands and Islands, successfully completed a sponsored hill walk in support of the store’s charity partner, Fife Shopping and Support Services.

It is expected that the money raised will fund a till for the charity’s new store planned for Kirkcaldy High Street. The dedicated 39-year-old was able to raise the impressive sum thanks to the generous donations of friends, family members and Specsavers customers across Fife and the Highlands and Islands.

Heather walked to the peak of both Lomond Hills – the highest hills in Fife – reaching 1700ft on West Lomond. She was joined by her two sons Charlie (6) and Joe (13) and family friend Mason, also 13.

Heather said, “The hill walk ended up being a real family effort.

“My sons were kind enough to help me on the last hill by giving me lots of encouragement. Both hills took around two and a half hours to complete so weren’t as bad as expected, but I was very grateful for the support of my two boys.” Stewart Wilson, director of Specsavers Highlands and Islands, said, “Everyone at the store is really proud of Heather and her fundraising efforts. Climbing to the peak of those hills is no mean feat – Heather got her motivation from thinking of the people who stand to benefit from the money raised. We’d also like to extend a big thank you to our customers for their kind donations.” The charity partnership sees two prominent mobile services, Specsavers Highlands and Islands and Fife Shopping and Support Services, join forces to help house-bound adults.

The charity specialises in visiting the homes of frail and housebound people to assist them with daily tasks, from shopping to pension collection.

Specsavers Highlands and Islands operates a mobile service and has subsequently branched out to offer an NHS-funded home visiting service across Fife, Tayside, Forth Valley and Perthshire.
