A PLAN has been submitted to create office/shop units out of the former disused public toilets in Cardenden.

John Holden, from Lochore, has asked for consent for the erection of two (one and a 1/2 storey) office/shop units, including demolition of the existing public convenience, at Station Road, Cardenden.

This news has been welcomed by the Cardenden organisations who have been campaigning for several derelict buildings in the ABCD conurbation to be removed. The former public toilets have been disused for some considerable time and the community council and Environment Group were invovled in discussions with Fife Council, who owned the site, to find a suitable solution.

Several ideas were mooted but there was concern that moves were taking too long to go into action.

However, the application from Mr Holden, lodged last week, will see the derelict structure transformed and David Taylor, secretary of the community council and an active member of the Environment Group, welcomed the news.

“This is an exciting time in Cardenden as we bid to get the eyesores which dominate parts of the village scene removed,” he said.

“The community council,Environment Group and the Development Forum have been strongly in favour of this site being properly developed and this plan looks good.

“We are also hoping that progress will soon be made on finding solutions to the old shop on Station Road, and the former youth centre building”.
