THE Corrie Day Centre, in Cardenden, provides an interesting and stimulating setting within which older members of the community can meet, make friends and become involved in activities and interests of their choice. The group operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30am until 2.00pm; this includes transportation times. The members are collected from home by minibus and on arrival at the Corrie Centre they receive tea/coffee and toast.

Entertainment varies but usually includes bingo; dominoes; handicrafts; discussions etc. Lunch is also included in the daily fee of £5 per person.

The Day Centre is staffed by a small group of dedicated volunteers; however they are always looking for more. Some of the Day Centre members had this to say: Betty Allan (84), “It’s great coming here and it breaks the monotony”. Jenny Allan (98), “I’ve been coming here for 26 years, it’s good company and gives me something to look forward to for three days of the week.” Ronald Bond (88) said, “I’m a widower and I come here for the company. I really appreciate what the volunteers do; I’ve known Carol, one of the volunteers, since she was a young girl. Coming here also ensures I get a good meal twice a week.” Volunteer, Norma Innes, commented, “It’s a great way to help the older folk in your own community and also make new friends.” Lorraine Mitchell urged, “Come along and join our happy band of volunteers”.

If you have some free time and would like to give back to your local community by volunteering at the Day Centre then please contact the Corrie Centre on 01592 722103.
