CARDENDEN Primary School was alive with the beat of African Drumming before the Easter break.
Primary 5 have completed an African music block thanks to the Youth Music Initiative in Fife.
Pupils presented their extensive work on African songs, music, drum rhythms and dance by performing to the school and their families.
They took the audience on a “tour” of African nations with pupils narrating in between the pieces of work. The children demonstrated how well they could play the African instruments and drums and sang various songs.
They began with Jambo, a Swahili welcome song. Other songs had associated actions or movements and children explained the origins of these songs well.
Impressive drumming- in different parts and with different rhythms- were shared and they showed traditional clapping and stone games as well as dances. Olwen Balfour-Music Specialist- has been working with Miss Chrystal’s P5 class all term and has been impressed with the children’s positive attitude and hard work.
Mrs Susan Harper, headteacher, explained how well the term’s work contributed to the experiences and outcomes of the expressive arts element of the Curriculum for Excellence.
