LINKED to the 2018 Year of Young People, Active Schools Fife are hosting an awards evening tonight (Wednesday) at the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, to recognise and reward the volunteers and coaches, who through their contribution to sport and physical activity truly make a difference to the lives of children and young people in local schools and communities.

The Active Schools set-up in this area was very much involved in the Willie Maley football tournament held last week in Cardenden and have inspired a number of activities throughout the district.

There are twelve award categories with four nominees shortlisted within each category and the winners will be announced on the night.

Said Andrew Baird, Senior Active Schools Co-ordinator said: "As part of the evening there will be a number of young people sharing their experiences, introducing the awards and performing.

"We are expecting approximately 250 people to be in attendance on the night with guests including, Provost Jim Leishman, elected members, sportscotland, Executive Director of Education & Children’s Services, event sponsors, school representatives, nominees and guests".

Pam Colburn, Active Schools Manager, went on: "A fundamental aim of Active Schools in Fife is to grow and support a network of people to deliver opportunities within our local schools and communities enabling more young people to take part in sport and physical activity.

"This year we will recognise the contribution of these individuals at the Active Schools Awards Evening. This evening aims to recognise and reward individuals who truly make a difference to the children and young people in our schools and communities.

"Nominations for each of the awards are invited from any individual or organisation that knows a person who they feel deserves an award and meets the criteria detailed in each category".
