SLAPPING a pensioner on the head proved costly for one Cardenden man this week.

Appearing for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Andrew Caldow, 33, of Dundonald Park, had previously admitted assaulting a 68 year-old man at Kirkland Gardens, Ballingry, last year by slapping him on his head to his injury.

Depute Fiscal, Jennifer Graham, said the victim suffered a "slight graze" as a result of the incident.

Defence solicitor, Chris Sneddon, said the two men were known to each other and it was believed he "lost the plot" on the day in question and behaved in such a manner.

Sheriff Craig McSherry ordered Caldow to pay a £250 fine and £250 in compensation to his victim.
