THERE was a proud day in Cardenden Co-op when three village charities received funds from the 1% payout which is generated through members buying the Co-op's own brand products.

Representatives of the John Thomson Memorial Committee, the 4th Fife Cardenden Scouts, and the Cardenden Community Development Group went along to the shop on Station Road to collect their cheques.

Members received 5% cash spend whenever they wish and chosen local charities receive 1% along with the 5p carrier bag charge.

The John Thomson Committee, which runs the boys' football tournament for primary school youngsters in Cardenden and Kinglassie, received £1,500.18.

Meanwhile the 4th Fife, which has been steadily upgrading their hall in Cardenden Road, received £1,431.16; and the Development Group, which has been busily working hard at seeing improvements happen in the village, received £1,507.88.

All the recipients warmly thanked the Co-op in Cardenden and their customers for making these funds available to them.

Said Alex Burns, of the John Thomson Committee: "This was a very generous contribution to our funds and I thank the Co-op and their customers for this important support."
