A YOUNG Water Buffalo from a farm near Auchtertool escaped from a field at the weekend but has been located. The animal headed towards woodland near Cardenden but farmer Stevie Mitchell reported overnight that he had been spotted.

Said Stevie on The Buffalo Farm Facebook page: "One of our younger buffaloes got a bit spooked at the weekend and escaped as we were working with them at our shed up at Torbain Farm.

"It was last seen heading towards Cardenden woods and despite searching high and low, we have been unable to find it so far."

But he added this morning: "He has been spotted unfortunately we have not got him home yet.

"He appeared on the road very close to Shawsmill Farm. "Unfortunately we couldn’t persuade him to go into the sheds but have got him into a field nearby. We have put some silage in with him and hope he will settle tonight. "Unfortunately the fences in that field are not the best as it’s not a normal livestock field but fingers crossed he is still there in the morning. The plan will be to take a quiet calm Buffalo down to him and all being well walk them both home. Thanks for all the sharing and goodwill its much appreciated".

So this is going to be a story with a happy ending.
