CARDENDEN Primary School's pupils will this week launch a campaign against litter.

As part of Fife Environmental Partnership and the upcoming £250,000 deep clean over the next six months in the count, local councillor Rosemary Liewald has been putting together a Litter Campaign in conjunction with the, Beautiful Fife, Fife Recycle and The Eco Schools initiative, which all schools within the ward signed up to several years ago and many have gained either their silver award or their Green Flag.

The campaign will begin this week and each school across the Lochgelly, Benarty and Cardenden ward is taking part. Said Councillor Liewald: "The aim is firstly to clean up the school area and streets alongside.

"The plan is to spread the message of pride in our streets and our community.

"With the assistance of our Environmental Team and Eco Schools plus parent groups and volunteers, a huge amount of work has been done to educate and highlight these issues with our children doing a great job in sending out the message to all.

"This is another opportunity to reinforce that positivity.

"High Vis shirts, gloves, bags and litter pickers will be provided for all.

"The campaign will begin in Cardenden and then move around the ward, Lochgelly and Benarty depending on the timetable of the Head Teachers."

Added Councillor Liewald: "If anyone would like to come on board with this campaign, get in touch with the school nearest to you in and around Ward 8, that is Cardenden, Lochgelly and Benarty, or contact myself on 07725223776 and I shall give you more information" .

The Cardenden Primary pupils will officially get the initiative up and running on Thursday afternoon.
