CARDENDEN and Kinglassie MP Peter Grant is geared to backing migrant season workers in his Glenrothes and Central constituency.

Two Fife MPs have voiced their support for EU migrant seasonal workers living and working in their constituencies.

Stephen Gethins, MP for North East Fife and SNP spokesperson for International Affairs and Europe, has lodged an Early Day Motion in Parliament recognising the critical contribution that seasonal workers from across the EU make to the UK farming industry and fresh produce supply network.

Peter Grant, the SNP’s Europe spokesperson, is supporting Stephen’s Early Day Motion in recognition of the many seasonal workers living in his Glenrothes and Central Fife constituency, which includes both local villages, who are worried about their future in light of Brexit.

Commenting, Peter said: “With a major vegetable producer situated very close to my constituency and with several farms in Central Fife relying heavily on seasonal workers from the EU, I am aware that many of my constituents are employed in the farming industry.

"I am therefore keen to ensure that EU workers’ rights and status in the UK are secured as early as possible.

“Scotland’s agricultural sector is reliant on migrant workers, particularly for fruit and vegetable production in Fife. Not only do EU nationals play a key role in supporting this vital part of our economy, they also make a valued contribution to our society and culture, helping to make Fife the richly diverse place it is today. "I hope Stephen’s Early Day Motion draws as much support as possible from other Parliamentarians to send a clear message to the UK Government that our EU workers’ rights are not for sale.”
