NETWORK/RAIL are to look at the condition of the footbridge at Cardenden Station after concern was expressed by the village's community council.
Local councillor Rosemary Liewald also contacted the organisation which factors the rail network after having a close look at the bridge which joins the two platforms of the station.
With the ABCD conurbation of villages growing the station, on of the three which serves the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area, has been getting ever busier over recent years.
The footbridge has been part of Cardenden station for decades and has had upgrades but it is starting to show signs of wear.
Said Councillor Liewald: "The community council are rightly concerned about the amount of rust that the footbridge has gathered and for a facility that deals with a lot of people daily it has to be of concern.
"It is re-assuring though that NetworkRail have got back now to say that bridge will be looked at in the new year with a view to improvements."
She added: "That is good news because as the Cardenden area continues to see more people moving into it it means that more people need to use the railway station for getting to work or social issues.
"The community council was right to highlight the problems being experienced by users of the bridge and NetorkRail's response is very encouraging."
