THEY have taken on a number of treks for charity, but the Cardenden Ramblers faced one their longest challenges since they started in 2013, by completing the 26 miles of the Edinburgh Kiltwalk's 'Mighty Stride'.

The group have done numerous walks for charity, this time it was for Stroke Association Scotland, the final donation total is estimated to be around £1,000.

Eight gallant walkers took on the challenge and two others tackled the shorter six mile walk all raising fund for the Stroke Association.

Alana Anderson, whose husband Davie, had a stroke last year said: "It was an emotional but very fulfilling day and one of huge personal achievement.

"Davie was always part of the walking group and has helped raised thousands of pounds for other charities over the years, this time we were walking for him".

One of the team, Roger Lindsay, finished first, completing the route in 8.5 hours, with Alana, Lyndsey Shand and Davie's cousin Wullie Anderson covering the 26 miles in 9 hours, with the other members, James Gilfillan, his brother Billy, Pete Munn and Andrea Duncan finishing the course in 9.5 hours.

Helen Lyons, her son Ryan and their dog Bruno, completed the Wee Wander of six miles earlier in the day.

Alana said that they had done a fair measure of training before the walk and it certainly paid off.

"It was a really nice trail and the first half went quite quickly but things changed in the second part of it and we all supported each other well, and Roger was a real star," she added.

"To complete it in just eight hours was some trek and we were all proud of his efforts."

Alana also said that everyone is signing up for next year's walk when hopefully Davie can take part: "We have already persuaded and cajoled several of his friends and some of my family to join in with us in 2018.

"Davie is getting stronger now and hopefully he will be able to get involved."

The Cardenden Ramblers have done a number of walks since their first in 2013 and it has seen them literally work as a team to achieve some amazing results with thousands of pounds raised for good causes.
