FOR the past nine weeks all children from P3 to P7 have been following the 'Couch 2 5k' programme in order to increase their fitness.

Their teachers Mrs Black, Mrs Elder and Mrs Devlin joined in too! They trained in the playground three times a week. The end goal was to be able to run 5k.

They held their own Race for Life in Wallsgreen Park, Cardenden, last Tuesday and they are very proud to say they all nailed it!

Said Suzanne Black: "The event was held in honour of three very special people – Shikira McMahon, a pupil who sadly passed away in 2011; Claire Donaldson, much loved and missed mum of Ellie Donaldson (P3); and Ronnie Howie, our survivor and husband of our school cook Helen.

"Many of the children also chose to run for members of their own families who have sadly been affected by cancer".

The teachers would like to thank all pupils for their outstanding efforts, those who sponsored the children taking part, school families who came on the day to cheer us on, your support was very much appreciated, and Simon Warren for his help on the day of the event.

The pupils and teachers are delighted to say the total raised so far is £1139.50 and this will be going to Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Black, Mrs Elder and Mrs Devlin would like to add that they are incredibly proud of the determination and amount of team spirit shown by the children on the day: "It was amazing to see them being so supportive, cheering one another on and even doing an extra lap to help friends over the finishing line. The atmosphere was fantastic on the day. They are all wearing their medals with pride, including the teachers!"
