MSP for Kinglassie, Jenny Gilruth, is encouraging more kids in her Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency to stay active by taking part in Walk to School Week.

From Monday May 15 to Friday 19th the Walk to School Week campaign from Living Streets was encouraging pupils to walk to their schools.

As well as encouraging an active lifestyle for young people, the initiative aims to have a positive impact on traffic congestion

and pollution by reducing the number of parents driving their children to school.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said: “This week has been a fantastic initiative to promote an active lifestyle among school pupils.

Walking to school can make young people feel happier and healthier, as well as reducing traffic pollution and road congestion.

"It’s a small gesture that can have a big impact on our

environment, our roads and our children.

“While recognising that for some young people it may not be practical to walk to school, I’d encourage more children to take part in this initiative. It may have ended on Friday, but I hope Walk to School Week encourages more pupils to walk to school all year round.

“Just be sure to wrap up for the weather!”
