A COMMUNITY based project that aims to recycle good quality children’s clothing and also raises funds to provide new school uniforms for local youngsters, has gone from strength to strength supporting hundreds of families in the Cowdenbeath area.

In the last year the local group based in Cardenden has been able to provide some 8000 items of clothing across the Cowdenbeath area.

The ‘Tots 2 Teen Togs’ project also does outreach sessions in Kelty, Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath and this week was in Ore Valley Business Centre, Lochgelly, and were joined by Alex Rowley MSP, who popped in to congratulate them on their almost one year of operation.

Group members, Nicola Wilson and Vi Penman, explained that since their launch at the Corrie Centre last year they have extended the service to other communities in the Cowdenbeath area.

The group have been overwhelmed by the amount of support and donations of both clothes and cash to buy clothes and school uniforms but are always on the lookout for donations.

Anyone wishing to become involved and volunteer with the group would also be very welcome and should contact them at the Corrie Centre.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP, Alex Rowley, thanked all the volunteers involved with the project and said: “This is a great project and I have been so impressed by the way it has developed since I attended their launch last year.

"Whilst I am sure we would all rather be in a situation where families did not face the problems created by low pay, unemployment, and the increasing failures of welfare reform, I have the utmost respect for the hard working volunteers like Nicola and Vi who give up their time to support their community.

“The group are always grateful to receive donations and are very keen to support anyone who wishes to get involved and volunteer”.
