IF you fancy a new you this new year, why not get on your bike in Cardenden for a free and fun evening of healthy tips and cycling?

The Wee Bikefest will be at the Corrie Centre from 6-8pm tonight (Wednesday) and is the ideal way to shake off the festive indulgences and pedal on to a health-kick.

Organised by Fife Council's Active Fife team, it is just one of a series of events across the Cowden-Gelly area to encourage more people to get in the saddle and find out more about the range of cycling activities that are available near them.

This is the fourth Bikefest that has been operated across the area, with the first events taking place in Lochgelly, Benarty and, most recently, Kelty last week.

They have proved to be a big attraction, with large numbers of youngsters and family members getting involved, and it is open for riders that are just beginning to cycle right through to experienced pedallers.

You can bring your bike along and have it checked and tagged by community police officers, pick up a Cycle Fife goody bag and learn about the proposed closed loop cycling circuit for Lochgelly.

The event will also offer those attending the chance to find out about cycling activities taking place in the Cowdenbeath area and beyond, to let Cycle Fife take you on a journey to find the Kingdom's best cycling routes, receive all the information you need about joining a local club from the Meedies Bike Club, or discover if you could be the next Sir Chris Hoy or Callum Skinner with Scottish Cycling.

The final Wee Bikefest event will take place on Wednesday January 25 at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre.

The Wee Bikefest would like to thank the following partners for supporting this wheelie great community biking initiative: Fife Council, PeachyKeen, Scottish Cycling, Meedies Bike Club, Community Police, NHS Health and Social Care Partnership, Cycle Fife and all event volunteers.
