THE funeral procession, passing through the main street of Bowhill on the way to the cemetery, was the largest seen in the mining village.
The coffins of nine of the accident victims were conveyed from Denend School, through the village, to the cemetery about one mile away. The crowd lining the streets, and those gathering in and around Bowhill Cemetery, was estimated at around 10,000. A lay preacher from St. Fothad’s Mission, Mr. William Maguire, conducted the burial service, and the Benediction was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Houston. The remains of victim John Donaldson, were buried in Kingskettle.
