POLICE were called to a Cowdenbeath home after neighbours smelt cannabis coming from one of the flats.

Jane Ferns was fined £900 for possession of the drug, which she had been drying on radiators and on a clothes horse.

The 26-year-old, of Jamphlars Road, Cardenden, admitted that on July 23 2015, at her then home at Woodend Park, Cardenden, that she was in possession of cannabis.

Depute Fiscal, Dev Kapadia, told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that police officers followed the smell to Ferns' address.

He said: "Police received calls from witness who were complaining of a smell of cannabis coming from one of the flats.

"The door was opened by the accused and she explained her reasons for being there."

He continued to state that Ferns admitted to the police officers that she had a "large quantity of grass" inside the flat.

The quantity of cannabis material totalled at 1,050 grams with a value of £900.

Defence solicitor, Stephen Morrison, said his client had paid £1,500 for a large black bag of wet cannabis material including stalks and two drying tents as part of the deal.

The tents were damaged, however, and this led to Ferns using radiators and a clothes horse to dry it out.

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: "This was a significant offence. As it is your first conviction and it is for possession and not supply, I can deal with this with a financial penalty."

He fined Ferns a total of £900.
