THIS year The Adam Smith Theatre faced one of their biggest challenges ever, with the departure of their long time dame and audience favourite Billy Mack, writes Kerry Black.

They obviously decided that they needed to fight back in true Fife style, with the ever popular Cinderella which features not one but two dames, in the shape of the classic Ugly Sisters Flatula and Verruca (played by Greg Powrie and Derek McGhie), who were well supported in the comedy ranks by the amazing Gordon Brandie as audience favourite Buttons.

From the moment the Ugly Sisters erupted into the auditorium in amazing costumes invoking the spirit of Star Wars, the audience loved them, cheering and booing their mad antics!

While many pantos seem to opt for a comical Fairy Godmother, this production had a sparkling Fairy, ably played by Ashley Andrews. She even had sparkles on her face!

The true star of the show is Fife’s own Kim Shepherd as Cinderella.

Kim has been performing in various local venues for many years and it was lovely to see her in the title role. Her singing voice is truly wonderful!

Everyone knows the story of Cinderella and how she meets the handsome prince (played by the glorious Blair Robertson) while he is masquerading as his manservant Dandini (Ryan Ferrie).

This panto featured many classic routines such as the ghostie scene and the sweetie throw, but the most incredible part of the whole show was the amazing Cinderella coach scene at the finale of the first act. I would urge anyone to go and see the show just to witness it!

With James Bryce as the Baron, an array of dancers and local children and crowd pleasing numbers such as 9 to 5 and 500 miles, there was something to please all ages in this classic panto.

Cinderella runs till Saturday 7th January, contact 01592 583302 or go to the On at Fife website or Facebook page to book.
