SIX young people from Bowhill Drop-In braved freezing conditions to raise funds for their Youth Club.

The idea to raise funds for their Drop-In was suggested and planned by the young people themselves and they decided to hold a sponsored Triathlon.

Wallsgreen Park, in Bowhill, was the venue for the running and cycling legs with Lochore Meadows Country Park staff providing the bikes for the day. Bowhill Swimming Pool kindly allowed free entry with a designated lane to complete the third and final discipline.

The young people ran five laps around the park followed by ten cycling laps, before finishing with twenty lengths of Bowhill Pool, so it’s fair to say that they set themselves a big challenge that they all completed.

Youth Workers Craig Christie, Kyle McLean & Alan Johnston were on hand to oversee proceedings and Craig added: "The young people should be proud of themselves, it was freezing but they kept on going and they are a credit to themselves and their parents. "There has been some negative publicity about some young people in the village recently but this shows that they do care about their community and are willing to put in the effort to improve what they have in their Drop-In Youth Club."

The five Iron women and one Iron man who competed on the day were Kieran Burns, Sophie Webster, Aimee Saunders, Darci Paterson, Caitlin and Cerys Jamieson and Charlie Blair.

The prize for best overall time was shared by Kieran Burns and Darci Paterson, who both excelled in all three disciplines.

The gruelling triathlon should bring in around £150 in sponsorship and this will go towards the purchase of some much needed equipment for the Drop-in.
