CARDENDEN boxer Lyndsey Robinson has been selected to fight for Scotland next week.

Cardenden Boxing Club hosted the Eastern District senior championships on Saturday and the local fighter caught the eye of the crowd by producing a title winning performance.

And it impressed the Scottish selectors who had no hesitation in including her in the team to take on England at the Caird Hall, in Dundee on Saturday December 10.

Cardenden BC's Willie Burns explained: "We were asked to

host the event at short notice, which consisted of 11 contests

of good quality boxing.

"The star of the afternoon for the Cardenden Club was without doubt our female boxer Linsey "Rocky" Robinson who overpowered her opponent in the final.

"Lynsey took on a contender from the Midlothian Club, Farah Huzair in an explosive contest.

"The first round saw both girls begin at a fast pace with hard exchanges from both boxers, the second round moved up a gear with Rocky beginning to dominate the pace, and the Midlothian boxer being forced to take a mandatory eight count.

"The Cardenden battler continued to press forward and forced a second count where the referee called a halt to the contest."

On Monday, the secretary of the Cardenden Boxing Club, was able to announce that Linsey had been selected to box for Scotland against England on December 10 at the Caird Hall Dundee.

Added Willie: "It was a tremendous win for Lynsey and she fully deserves this opportunity.

"It is another honour for the Cardenden Club and we hope that Lynsey does well in what will be a tough contest for her."
