THE Cardenden Christmas Lights switch-on took place on Friday with the villagers meeting up in the Bowhill Centre

Everyone was entertained by The Auchterderran/Kinglassie church choir and Lochgelly High School steel band and it made an excellent start to proceedings.

Everybody enjoyed tea , coffee and cakes, then there was a raffle with some good prizes and an exceedingly good cake and candy stall and all was cleaned out!

Due to unforeseen circumstances Santa and his train was unable to attend causing some tears not only for the children but Santa too but the good sized group made their way up to the Community Garden for the countdown carried out by Councillor Linda Erskine and the children of the village.

At 5.30 pm the traditional Christmas tree covered with coloured lights and a big gold star on the top was lit.

Said Cardenden Environment Group's Mary Murdoch: "This was a last wish of the late Helen Wilson, one of Cardenden's real community stalwarts so just had to be done.

"There are also four decidious trees covered in white lights making it look like a fairyland.

"During the last two months myself ,my husband and our daughter-in-law Vicky have been making memory baubles as fundraising for the Christmas lights and Margaret Wilson and her staff in our local Co-op have been helping to sell them this has been very successful in helping our village look better and brighter.

"The villagers who purchased the memory baubles can put them on the tree in the CG or in their own home whatever they wish."

Mary thanked everyone who took part on behalf of the Environment Group.
